Emotional and mental health

Information leaflets and self-help downloads

On the NHS Choices website there is a very helpful information hub - Moodzone. It includes self-assessment tools. Also visit a new local website about adolescence called 'R!SKY Business Dorset' and the 'ThinkUknow' website about the dangers that exist online.

You can download leaflets from the Royal College of Psychiatrists for all the topics listed on the right (and many more).  This page is especially for Young People.

There is also a range of excellent self-help leaflets that you can download from the Northumberland/Tyne & Wear NHS Trust.

Helplines

Visit NHS Moodzone for a list of Mental Health Helplines

Talk to your GP

None of the resources contained in this 'Emotional and mental health' section is a substitute for talking to your GP. Don't feel embarrassed or ashamed, whatever the problem is.  All the listed conditions are more common with young people than you would imagine, and you can be sure that your GP will be sympathetic and keen to help you - and they can.
"You are allowed to feel messed up and inside out.  It doesn't mean you are defective - it just means you are human."   David Mitchell
