
Chair - Michael Turvey
Michael brings a broad experience and knowledge, based on 50 years of working in the private, public and voluntary sectors. He started his career with the major steel company, Guest Keen and Nettlefords, being trained in work study, personnel management and health & safety He then moved into local government with Cardiff City Council, holding a variety of positions giving him valuable experience in almost every area of a Council's work This experience ranged from front line services, such as establishing the City's first Housing Help Centre, to strategic work, attracting significant European grants and also for economic development. As lead officer for council house building, with an annual budget of £17 million, he led on the building of over 600 houses per year and was project manager for what was the largest mixed housing development in Wales. As head of Corporate Services and Policy he was the lead officer for local government reorganisation, and gained experience of work across the political spectrum at all levels, including MPs, ministers and the Prime Minister. In 1995 he became the Chief Executive and Town Clerk for Christchurch Borough Council, a post he held until his retirement in 2010. Since "retiring", he has directly and indirectly supported voluntary organisations in Christchurch, including: Chair of governors at The Grange School, trustee of Twynham Learning: panel member of Dorset County Council's Community Fund grant giving body: trustee of Christchurch Housing Society; and a trustee of Deputy Chairman of the Christchurch Community Partnership - which he has supported from its very inception.
